Everything We Just Learned about Star Wars Hotel
According to The Facts of Life theme song, you take the good, and you take the bad.
I thought about this when Disney revealed new lightsabers coming soon…but also a delay to the hotel. It’ll debut in 2022 instead of 2021 as expected.
Those two announcements represent the tip of the iceberg of recent Disney news about Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.
Here’s everything we just learned about the upcoming Star Wars Hotel!
What We Already Knew
In 2022, Imagineers will unveil their pride and joy, an immersive hotel themed to Star Wars.
The premise here is that you’re a wealthy interstellar traveler going on a cruise to the far reaches of the galaxy.
Yup, you’re taking a luxury space cruise!
Now, you may wonder how that’s possible. You’ll need to trust Imagineers to make the magic happen.
The structure of the hotel will create an escapist experience the moment you arrive.
You’ll board a small transport ship that takes you to the luxury vessel.
This part of the hotel includes a launch pod vibe to create the illusion that you’re boarding a ginormous Starcruiser.
Once onboard, your real-life Star Wars adventure begins. Disney has crafted three-day, two-night epics that will vary depending on your alignment.
Are you down with the Force, or do you prefer your lightsabers red? When you start your cruise, Disney cast members will perform as Star Wars characters.
A handful of them will take on the roles of established characters from the Star Wars universe. Others will play members of the ship’s crew.
However, all of them will have a backstory that could impact your journey, as you’ll receive Star Wars-based assignments along the way.
As a cruise tourist, you’ll occasionally set foot on shore, by which I mean Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Another transport vehicle will take you here.
Disney maintains the illusion by theming everything as if you’re in an authentic Star Wars story.
More impressively, you’ll sometimes receive missions to complete on the ship or Batuu. These quests will raise your Star Wars profile over time.
Even when you’re in your hotel room, the immersion continues. Your room’s view is a digital wall projection of the most famous sights from the Star Wars franchise.
About the Crew
The Disney Parks Blog just revealed the following:
“…you may interact with an eclectic group of characters both familiar and new, possibly including the starcruiser’s strong and charismatic captain, a plucky ship’s mechanic and a galactic superstar who can captivate an entire room with the crook of one jewel-encrusted purple Twi’lek finger.”
Right now, when you visit Star Wars Land, you could encounter Rey, Chewbacca, Kylo Ren, or Stormtroopers.
Obviously, those characters wouldn’t be taking a space cruise with you. So, Galactic Starcruiser will establish its own cast of characters.
This crew sounds like a cross between Star Trek, Firefly, and The Love Boat, which makes sense. It is an interstellar luxury cruise, after all.
You should feel like galactic royalty while onboard. However, you want to get your hands dirty by meeting the captain, the mechanic, and the celebrity.
These cast members characters could open the path to new quests for you during your real-life Star Wars Adventure!
The Disney Parks Blog says that:
“…from the moment you arrive to the moment you depart, you’ll be plunged into a Star Wars story where your decisions and actions – or even the casual conversations you may have – determine how your personal journey unfolds.”
The fate of the galaxy rests in your hands during your cruise! No pressure!
About the Dinner
That musician with the purple fingers isn’t a guest. Instead, she’s a performer at Crown of Corellia Dining Room.
This supper club pays tribute to Corellia, the home planet of Han Solo. It’s also famous for its shipyards and created the Halcyon, your cruise vessel!
Several years ago, word leaked that Disney wanted a fine dining experience at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
However, those plans eventually moved to Star Wars Hotel. On most cruises, one of the meals provides an elevated experience compared to the rest.
For instance, Disney just revealed the Disney Wish, which will host a dinner show featuring Elsa and Anna from Frozen.
This experience should work similarly, only it’s set in space and will introduce a new celebrity singer.
Disney states:
“The dining room is a bright and welcoming hall that will offer breakfast and lunch to passengers before transitioning each evening into a lavish multi-course menu of both otherworldly and familiar origins.”
From this description, I presume that dinner is the fancy meal with a cast member performance. That’s just my speculation, though.
Use the Force!
Here’s what I love about Disney. The company can post a 15-second video and break the internet:
Yes, that’s a real, working Lightsaber. No, it’s not a special effect.
Some brilliant Imagineer has cracked the code that allows full-functioning lightsabers.
This invention provides more than shock value, too. At the Star Wars Hotel, you’ll put your lightsaber skills to the test!
One part of the hotel will include a training room wherein you whip out your lightsaber and start beating on imaginary constructs.
When you use the Force well, you’ll complete the class and earn whatever the intergalactic equivalent of passing a training course is.
Disney hasn’t announced how big a part that lightsaber duels play in the immersive experience, but I’d be surprised if they weren’t some of it.
All Hands on Deck!
You’re traveling on a luxury ship, and you’re heading to Batuu, the last sign of civilization before Wild Space.
Pirates have caused concerns in the area, which may or may not play into the story.
What we do know is that tourists will receive a bridge tour and some training in how to operate parts of the helm.
You may learn how to work the operation and defense systems for fun…or you may need to do it to survive and increase your Star Wars reputation.
We won’t know for sure until the hotel opens, but I suspect that the latter is a good bet.
Elsewhere, you’ll wander the Atrium, the inviting locale where tourists spend their time doing touristy things.
Disney also confirmed The Sublight Lounge, “a warm and inviting retreat for passengers of all ages.”
Beyond that, much of the information about Galactic Starcruiser stems from rumors and hearsay.
However, Disney has opened the official website for Star Wars Hotel. This is gonna be awesome!
