Disney Makes Its First (Temporary?) Change to the New Lightning Lane System
Just two days after Walt Disney World’s new Lightning Lane passes debuted, Disney made their first tweak to the system.
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been moved from the “Tier 1” category to “Tier 2.” Strangely, however, the change only applies to Saturday, July 27, and Sunday, July 28.
Like Disney’s Genie+ before it, the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass divides Disney’s Hollywood Studios into two tiers of attractions. Guests can select up to 1 attraction from Tier 1 and up to 3 attractions from Tier 2.
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Has Been Reclassified
When the new system debuted earlier this week, Tier 1 was comprised of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, Slinky Dog Dash, and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. This meant that guests purchasing a Lightning Lane Multi Pass for the park could only reserve ONE of those attractions.
Now, however, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster has been moved to the park’s second tier alongside Alien Swirling Saucers, Beauty and the Beast- Live on Stage, Disney Junior Play and Dance!, For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration, the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular!, MuppetVision, Star Tours, and the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.
The new change should allow more guests to secure a Lightning Lane for the attraction as they no longer have to spend their Tier 1 selection on it.
The Change May Be Temporary
Currently, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is only listed as a Tier 2 attraction for this weekend. It remains to be seen if this change will be temporary, or if it is some kind of glitch.
UPDATE: As of Monday, July 29, 2024, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster has returned to the tier one list of Lightning Lanes.
