Daisy Ridley Reveals That Production on the Next Rey Skywalker Film Could Begin This Year
While The Mandalorian & Grogu will officially be the next Star Wars film to enter development, there is a trio of films theoretically right behind it.
At last year’s Star Wars Celebration, Kathleen Kennedy announced that Lucasfilm has plans to explore three different eras of galactic history. James Mangold is set to take Star Wars back to the Dawn of the Jedi in a film that explores the genesis of the Force. Dave Filoni, meanwhile, will bring together the heroes of the New Republic for a Mand-verse cinematic event. Finally, Sharmeed Obaid-Chinoy will helm a film that will see Rey Skywalker rebuild the Jedi Order.
Of the three films, it was Daisy Ridley’s return as Rey Skywalker that was expected to hit theaters first. While the announcement of The Mandalorian & Grogu may delay the arrival of Rey’s return, according to Ridley, production on the film should start soon.
“I think it could be this year. It could be, but I’m not sure,” she explained. “I think to be honest, the writers’ strike has obviously delayed quite a lot of things. So the intention was later this year. Hopefully, it will be. Otherwise, top of next, I would imagine.”
Ridley Has Not Read the Full Script Yet
At this point, Ridley has not yet read the finished script for the film. Still, the actress says she is very excited by the prospect of the film.
“I know a script is happening, and I’m going to be reading it imminently, which is very exciting.”
While we don’t know a ton about the upcoming Rey Skywalker film, we do know that the film will see Rey fulfilling her promise to Luke and rebuilding the Jedi Order.
Ridley has also revealed that the film will likely see Rey separated from her sequel trilogy comrades Poe and Finn.
Although we still don’t have a release date for the next Rey Skywalker Star Wars film, it sounds like we shouldn’t have to wait long.
