James Mangold To Direct Star Wars Film Exploring the ‘Dawn of the Jedi’
The first day of Star Wars Celebration started with a bang, when LucasFilm announced three new live action movies.
Shortly before announcing the movies, LucasFilm head Kathleen Kennedy took to the stage and shared the company’s vision of the future of Star Wars.

Broadening The Timeline
Kennedy noted that the franchise will be “broadening the timeline”. Above her, images appeared on screen highlighting nine major eras in Star Wars lore.
While Star Wars has largely been focused on the timeline between the Fall of the Jedi and the Rise of the First Order, one era has been largely ignored by LucasFilm and Disney- until now.

The Dawn of the Jedi, an era set even before the fan-favorite Old Republic, is finally being explored.
The Advent of the Force
The first new feature film announced at Star Wars Celebration, was James Mangold’s film about “the dawning of the force”.
Titled Dawn of the Jedi, the film will be set before the Old Republic. In fact, the film will take place 25,000 years before A New Hope. It will mark the first time that LucasFilm has gone back that far in Star War’s timeline.
Mangold’s film will explore the founding of the Jedi Order, and was described as a “Biblical epic”.

Based on the directors track record with films such as Logan and Ford v Ferrari, I cannot wait to see the directors vision for the dawning of the force and the rise of the Jedi.
Hopefully, by exploring the early history of the galaxy, LucasFilm will continue to explore other forgotten eras such as the Old Republic.
