‘Soul’ Honored at 2021 ASCAP Screen Music Awards
Although Soul saw its initial release during the Christmas season, the awards have continued for the Disney and Pixar masterpiece; this time being honored at the 2021 ASCAP Screen Music Awards.
The ASCAP Awards aim to honor and recognize some of the nation’s premier composers and songwriters of our favorite films, television shows, and video games.
The four-day event honors the dignified crop of talented individuals, while also giving fans and viewers an intimate look into their unique musical lives.
It is impossible to overstate the impact that these many talented individuals had on the world this past year.
A time of turmoil for our nation, a time of great pain and loss; these talented performers provided the soundtrack to our hope through their immense talent.
One of the award show’s most deserving winners was the duo behind the music for one of the year’s best-animated films; that being John Batiste and Trent Reznor’s work on Disney and Pixar’s Soul.
Their work on the film was recognized as ASCAP composer choice film score of the year at the event.
This is yet another major win for the composing team of the widely acclaimed animated film, with the movie already winning an Oscar, a Golden Globe, and a BAFTA Film Award.
Jon Batiste, one half of the composing duo, is a widely recognized jazz musician. With ties to the renowned Julliard school of the arts, Batiste has had a presence as a professional musician for almost two decades.
Batiste is perhaps wildly known for both his collaborations with artists like Stevie Wonder and Ed Sheeran.
As well as his role as bandleader and music director for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert; a role he’s held since 2015.
Trent Reznor is a surprising part of Batiste’s composition team. The lead singer of the widely known band Nine Inch Nails, the multi-instrumentalist was the lead presence on the band’s over eleven Studio Albums.
The composer team working on Soul also benefitted from the help of contributor Atticus Ross. A Grammy winner for his work alongside Reznor on films like The Social Network and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
Ross is no stranger to garnering recognition for his incredible work in the area of film, only not being recognized for his lack of affiliation with the ASCAP.
Soul has continued to receive countless awards, and rightfully so. The film has become a near-instant classic for Disney and Pixar fans.
