PHOTOS: EPCOT Construction Roundup for December 22, 2023
Over the past few years, EPCOT has been home to a winding maze of construction walls.
For patient (and not-so-patient) Disney fans, the wait paid off this fall when Disney unveiled several new features in the park.
The interactive Journey of Water – Inspired by Moana debuted in October.

Earlier this month, Dreamers Point and the World Celebration Gardens opened to guests, along with the highly-anticipated “Walt the Dreamer” statue.

But Disney never sleeps, and work continues in EPCOT! We’ve got the roundup below.
Work Continues on CommuniCore Hall
Construction continues elsewhere in EPCOT as CommuniCore Hall begins to take shape.
Crews have installed additional scaffolding and the entire area is still encased in scrim.

Meanwhile, a new directional sign has been installed on the pathway outside of the future CommuniCore Hall.

The sign points the way to Journey of Water – Inspired by Moana, nearby restrooms, World Showcase, Connections Cafe & Eatery, Creations Shop, and World Discovery.
Flex Area Mystery Construction
This summer, construction crews began work on the flex space next to EPCOT’s Imagination! pavilion.

Until now, visible progress has been scarce. This week, construction crews made significant headway on the project.

Previously used as a playground, the area has been closed to guests for several years. But recent progress indicates a repurposing of the area in the near future.
Black lampposts have been installed throughout the area. The white orb light fixtures give off a classic vibe.
Meanwhile, pink-toned hardscaping is underway. Matching curbs line the paved area.

Construction crews also installed new green metal railings and laid fresh grass this week.
What is Disney Building?
With no official announcement on the scope of the project, the end result is still a mystery.
One common theory is that the area will be used to house food kiosks for EPCOT’s various festivals. Others speculate the area could be used for something new.
