‘The Little Mermaid’ Finally Gets A Disney+ Release Date

Just over three months after the film premiered in theaters, Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid will land on Disney+ on September 6.

Rob Marshal’s live-action take on the classic animated film starred Hale Bailey as Ariel, Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula.

Although perhaps not the smash hit that Disney was hoping for, The Little Mermaid did well at the domestic box office and managed to gross $564.3 million overall.

The Little Mermaid Release Schedule

Following the recent release strategy of other Disney films including Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania and Avatar: The Way of Water, Disney made The Little Mermaid available for digital download months before it will land on Disney+.

This has allowed Disney to create a window where the film is exclusively available for purchase. Interestingly, however, Disney has chosen to put The Little Mermaid on Disney+ prior to releasing it on physical media.

Disney has previously announced that The Little Mermaid will be available on physical home media on September 19.

Bonus Features

Special features for both the digital and physical versions of The Little Mermaid will include song breakdowns with Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda, a sing-along version of the film, featurettes and bloopers.

Also included will be “Hotter Under the Water” a five-part making-of documentary that goes behind the scenes of the film.
