Could This Mean the Barges in EPCOT Will Be Gone Soon?
The 50th Anniversary celebrations ended last month in Disney World, but not all of the decorations and fanfare were removed right away. It took a few days to see the 50th decor taken off of signs, banners, and more.
Some of the remnants of the 50th celebration are those GIANT barges in the middle of the World Showcase Lagoon in EPCOT. These were used for the Harmonious nighttime spectacular that was a part of the big celebration.
We’ve been waiting for the barges to be removed, and some of them have, but the others remain! However, we spotted something today that might mean they’re leaving soon.
EPCOT Barges
Today in EPCOT, we noticed that Cast Members were working on connecting the barges. MickeyBlogger Ed calls these “tacos” because they look like the same shape as a taco!
He said that the workers hooked up one of the tacos and then they left. Hmmm…interesting!
What we take away from this is that they might be getting ready to tow them out of the lagoon. These things are pretty big, so they’re not super easy to just move around!
We’ve already seen work being done on the barges over the past couple of weeks. From what we can gather, they’re being removed one at a time.
We’ll keep an eye out to see when they are actually taken out of the lagoon. We know a lot of EPCOT fans will be very excited for that day!
Even though Harmonious was a gorgeous and emotional nighttime spectacular, the barges were kind of an eyesore during the daytime. People just weren’t used to seeing giant metal structures in the otherwise serene lagoon!
So, while I am sad that Harmonious is over, I’m not so sad about seeing those big barges removed! Stay tuned to MickeyBlog for more Disney World news and updates.
