The Land Pavilion’s 1982 Background Music Has Already Been Shut Off
EPCOT Center fans of all ages were understandably thrilled last week when The Land pavilion began unexpectedly playing its original 1982 background music.
As it turns out, however, the blast from the past may have been short-lived.
Today, when visiting EPCOT, we noticed that not only had the original 1982 loop been turned off, but there was no music playing at all.
The 1982 Background Music Had Returned
For those who don’t know, the original Land background music loop played in the pavilion from 1982 until 2005.
The loop featured an eclectic mix of songs from the Great Amerian Songbook (“You Are My Sunshine,” “Moon River,” “It’s Only a Paper Moon”), show tunes (“Sunrise, Sunset”), and even more modern (at the time) popular hits like “Sunshine on My Shoulders.” Predominantly composed of songs that had some variation of “sun” or “moon” in the title, the original background music loop was a staple of the pavilion for the first 23 years of its existence.
In 2005, with the addition of Soarin’ and the overhaul of the pavilion, The Land got a new background music loop. That version of the loop would last until 2015.
Since the overhaul of EPCOT, Disney has played a uniform soundtrack in World Celebration, World Nature, and World Discovery. At this time, it is unclear if the return of The Land’s 1982 was just limited-time magic or if it will return again.
MickeyBlog is On the Case!
While we are not sure what Disney’s plans are at this moment, one thing is clear: Disney will not simply stop playing background music in front of The Land.
So, whether they turn on the modern loop or the 1982 background music returns, we here at MickeyBlog will be on the case!
