Welcome back to our continuing journey through Disney history. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- July 18.
July 18th was a slower day in Disney history, but it still featured the opening of a new Disneyland attraction, the release of a new Disney sequel, and the official opening of Disneyland to the public! So, let’s get started!
Mickey in Arabia Released (1932)
On this day in 1932, the Mickey Mouse cartoon Mickey in Arabia was released.
In the cartoon, Sultan Pete tries to capture Minnie for his harem.
Uncle Donald’s Ants Released (1952)
On this day in 1952, Uncle Donald’s Ants was released.
In the cartoon, ants follow Donald’s home and take over his house!
Disneyland Opens to the Public (1955)
On this day in 1955, Disneyland opened to the public.
The first guest to enter the park was 22-year-old college student Dave MacPherson who received a lifetime pass.
Davy Crockett and the River Pirates Released (1956)
On this day in 1956, Davy Crockett and the River Pirates was released to theaters.
The film was a compilation of the last two episodes of Disney’s Davy Crockett miniseries.
Great Moments with Mr. Linocoln Opens (1965)
On this day in 1965, Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln opened to the public.
The former World’s Fair attraction welcomed guests at the Main Street Opera House.
The Plaza Inn Opens (1965)
Also on this day in 1965, the Plaza Inn opened at Disneyland.
The cafeteria-style restaurant replaced the Red Wagon Inn which had opened with Disneyland in 1955.
Heidi Airs On the Disney Channel (1993)
On this day in 1993, Heidi aired on The Disney Channel.
The two-part miniseries was based on the classic Swiss novel of the same name.
Eddie’s Million Dollar Cookoff Airs (2003)
On this day in 2003, Eddie’s Million Dollar Cookoff premiered on the Disney Channel.
The film tells the story of a young baseball player who considers giving the sport up in order to become a cook.
Jasmine’s Flying Carpets Opens (2011)
On this day in 2011, Jasmine’s Flying Carpets opened in Tokyo DisneySea.
Based on the Disney animated classic Aladdin, the attraction was a clone of the Magic Kingdom’s Magic Carpets of Aladdin.
Planes: Fire and Rescue Released (2014)
On this day in 2014, Planes: Fire and Rescue was released to theaters.
The film was a sequel to the 2013 animated film Planes.
