‘Elemental’ Wins for the Third Straight Week
Disney’s streaming services finished another solid week on the Nielsen charts, but it’s Elemental that stood out once again.
Yes, Elemental was the most-watched movie across streaming services for the third straight week. It’s a blockbuster streaming hit.
Elemental on Top

Pixar’s latest gem, Elemental, debuted on Disney+ on September 13th.
Since then, the adorable romantic comedy has charmed Disney fans with its optimism and warmth.
As I mentioned last week, we had every reason to expect Elemental to lose momentum during its third weekend, though.

Nielsen’s streaming charts generally involve lots of turnover in the Movies category. Once subscribers watch a movie, they’re done with it.
Only films with excellent word-of-mouth show any staying power, which is a strong sign for Elemental.

During its third week on Disney+, Elemental gained 862 million viewing minutes, which means that nearly ten million people watched the whole film.

As a reminder, Nielsen staggers its streaming ratings for some reason. So, the week we’re discussing is September 25th through October 1st.
Elemental will likely lose roughly half of its viewers next week, possibly even more since it’s started so strong.
Amusingly, Disney will be okay as Elemental starts to slip because a different Disney+ streaming trend will emerge.

In October, Disney+ viewers will turn to Hocus Pocus, Hocus Pocus 2, and The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Expect all three of them to appear on the charts soon.
On the downside, The Little Mermaid fell from the charts, which is what I’d expected would happen since it’s been available on the service for a while now.

However, Disney’s Moana claimed eighth place on the Movies chart with its usual 237 million minutes.
People really love this film and watch it over and over again.
Other Disney Shows on the Charts

In terms of the Nielsen Originals chart, Disney once again claimed two spots.
Ahsoka finished in fourth place with 572 million viewing minutes. That’s nearly identical to last week’s 570 million.
You should know that the Star Wars series finished its season two days after the end of this week’s streaming charts.

So, we can safely expect it to appear in the Originals top ten two more times. That’s what typically happens with new Disney+ programming.
The shows stick around one week after their season ends. Then, they vanish from the charts until the new season is nearly ready to return.
At that point, fans tend to binge-rewatch to catch up, which can cause the series to chart again right before its new season starts.

Everything I just said applies to Only Murders in the Building as well.
This show finished fifth with 505 million viewing minutes, up slightly from 489 million the previous week.

The marvelous Selena Gomez/Steve Martin/Martin Short mystery series also aired its season finale two days after this chart. So, it should appear for two more weeks as well.
Finally, on the Acquired chart, Bluey dropped back ever so slightly this past week.

Bingo, Bluey and Dad cheer as Dad guesses the toy Muffin wants for her birthday.
The children’s show finished in third place with 794 million viewing minutes.
The show’s range is generally between 600 and 900 million minutes. So, this is about what we should expect from week to week.

Disney+ should also expect a return performance in October in Acquired as well.
The Simpsons usually soars in popularity as Halloween approaches, with fans (like me) bingeing Treehouse of Horror episodes.
