Friends say the actor’s downturn occurred when his parents passed away (apparently beginning with his father in 2015). However, abuse allegations followed by multiple arrests found him on nationally shared/unrecognizable mug shots and in jail.
Hope for Weiss
But a hopeful media item appeared this week, explaining that Weiss, who played Goldberg in the series, graduated from Yuba County Drug Court – an achievement which earns dismissal of his criminal cases.

Participants begin the road to recovery by taking responsibility, admitting their crimes, agreeing to do the hard work of treatment, and paying any restitution owed to the victims of their crimes,” explained the Yuba County DA Facebook account.
“The Drug Court Team then fashions a treatment plan specific to the individual’s needs,” added the DA’s office. “Participants typically spend time in residential treatment and then transition to outpatient treatment and regular participation in community support programs such as Celebrate Recovery, Alcoholics Anonymous, or Narcotics Anonymous.

“During their court-supervised treatment program, the participants are subject to random drug testing and visits from the probation team.
“Their progress in treatment is regularly examined in court before the judge. It usually takes one to two years to earn graduation,” wrote the office.
A Long Way Back
It took a little over a year for Weiss, whose entry upon release read:

“He had to move treatment and transitional living programs on several occasions. He underwent dental reconstructive surgery and had a close family member suffer a serious accident during his treatment,” explained the DA Office’s post. “Shaun regained employment and has been traveling across the country making guest appearances and signing autographs.

Lots of Support
“He received tremendous support from friends and fans of the character, Goldberg, whom he played in the 1992 hit ‘The Mighty Ducks,” they added.
No word yet on whether the actor might make his way onto the second season of the Disney+ Mighty Ducks reboot.

Regardless of where he finds work, Mighty Ducks and Disney fans are rooting for the actor to maintain control of his life and career from here on out.
