Disney Entertainment’s Dana Walden Shares Optimism Amidst Emmy Nominations
Dana Walden, co-chair of Disney Entertainment, is having a great week! Just yesterday, the combination of her platforms and studios earned the company a remarkable 183 Emmy nominations.
Walden shared her excitement and optimism about Hollywood’s future, recognizing that one positive outcome of the pandemic was the entertainment industry’s shift in a positive direction.
Walden’s Portfolio
Walden’s portfolio spans numerous platforms, including Hulu, Disney+, and FX, as well as studios such as 20th Television and Disney-Branded Television.
The 2024 Primetime Emmys marks a huge milestone for the company with productions like Shogun, The Bear, Only Murders in the Building, and Abbott Elementary leading the way for the high nomination count.
Walden shared with The Hollywood Reporter, “I’m so pleased and proud of our teams. The 183 nominations are really an extraordinary feat, more than we’ve ever had at the Walt Disney Company.”
FX received 93 nominations, surpassing HBO, and Walden believes this is a direct reflection of Disney’s vision of integrating brands from Fox into the company.
Dana took a moment to reflect on The Bear‘s success on Hulu and emphasized the importance of quality work: “What we’ve found over and over again is that if you do excellent work, people will come. It might take a little longer, but then it burns incredibly brightly and sustains.”
The Bear proved to be an unexpected success but has gained a strong following and critical acclaim. Walden believes this exemplifies Disney’s ability to identify and deliver promising content.
Hollywood’s Future
Amidst the excitement and congratulations pouring in, Walden acknowledged the challenges that Hollywood still faces, including job shortages, halted productions, and frustrated industry employees.
However, she remains optimistic as new shows develop and audiences and critics support them. “We’re coming out of a hard time, but I think we’re moving in the right direction.”
