The VOID VR Experience At Disney Springs Will Not Reopen
Earlier this year, we here at MickeyBlog reported that closure and termination of lease notifications were place on The VOID VR Experience at Downtown Disney at Disneyland Resort. For those unfamiliar, The VOID offered an untethered, family friendly virtual reality experience themed after various Disney franchises including Star Wars, Marvel and Wreck-It-Ralph.
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak and concerns around the Health and Safety of guests needing to suit up for the experience, it looks like the company has made the decision that will not be returning to Downtown Disney. Reports are also surfacing today that the same applies to VOID’s Disney Spring’s location!
According to employees working at the Disney Springs location, the company reached out to staff in an email to inform them of the permanent closure.
When visiting the VOID website, the following message is posted:
TO ALL OF OUR TRAVELERS
As much as we would like to take all of you to a safe Virtual World right now, we have to do our part in keeping each other safe from COVID-19.
COVID-19 is affecting all of us – as employees, travelers and communities – in a constantly evolving environment and in unprecedented ways. UPDATE: Our terminals are remaining temporarily closed for everybody’s safety and to support our local health officials and government leaders. We will continue to monitor the situation and update our travelers with our reopening plans as soon as possible.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and are here to help you reschedule any pre-booked tickets and offer an additional experience of your choosing. Please contact support@thevoid.com to receive your credit toward an additional experience in lieu of a refund.
Please continue to follow federal, state, and local guidelines to remain safe and healthy.
Sincerely,
Your VOID Team
It’s unfortunate that this unique experience will not be returning to Disney. I had the opportunity to enjoy Star Wars- Secrets of the Empire with my family and it was AMAZING. However, the experience requires guests to use a VR helmet, backpack and weapons which poses obvious concerns in the age of social distancing.
Hopefully this isn’t the last we’ve heard from the VOID which was riding high last year with the new that it was receiving $20 million in funding from James Murdoch. Keep following along with MickeyBlog and we promise to keep you posted!
