Caitlin Clark’s First WNBA Game to Stream on Disney+
Tuesday, May 14, 2024, is shaping up to be a massive day as, for the first time ever, Disney+ will stream the first (non-animated) live sports event with not one but two WNBA games.
But there’s more! One of these games will feature the debut of WNBA rookie sensation, Caitlin Clark, when her Indiana Fever goes up against the Connecticut Sun in the first WNBA game of the regular season.

The doubleheader will stream live on Disney+ starting at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, May 14, when the much-anticipated matchup between the Fever and Sun gets underway.
Following that game, the Phoenix Mercury will take on the Las Vegas Aces starting at 10 pm EST, also on Disney+.

In addition to the live stream on Disney+ featuring these two games, both will be aired on ESPN2 and streamed on ESPN+.
Two other regular-season premiere games will occur on May 14, 2024, including the New York Liberty vs. the Washington Mystics at 7 pm EST and the Minnesota Lynx vs. the Seattle Storm at 10 pm EST. Both of these games can be viewed on ESPN3.

In the past, Disney+ has live-streamed NFL and NHL events. However, these events used animation to bring the games to viewers. Next Tuesday’s WNBA live stream will mark Disney+’s official entry into the live sports arena.
The announcement of both WNBA games being streamed live follows Bob Iger’s announcement this past Tuesday that an ESPN tile would be coming to Disney+ a little later this year. Once this feature launches, Disney+ subscribers can watch live sporting events at no additional cost.

During The Walt Disney Company’s earnings call on Tuesday, Iger said, “We see this as a first step to bring ESPN to Disney+ viewers as we ready the launch of our enhanced stand-alone ESPN steaming in the fall of 2025.”
Disney+ is relying on Clark’s WNBA regular-season debut to drive even more subscribers to its platform. During her college career, Clark shattered all kinds of basketball and viewing records, with the final game of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship attracting a whopping 18.9 million people.
