Sam Raimi Shuts Down ‘Spider-Man 4’ Speculation

Sam Raimi has finally weighed in on the rumors that a Spider-Man 4 starring Tobey Maguire is in development, and if the film is happening, it sounds like nobody told the director.

The latest rumors that a Spider-Man 4 could be in the works were fueled by Thomas Haden Church, who played Sandman in 2007’s Spider-Man 3.

“Sam Raimi is doing, from what I’ve heard, he’s going to do another stand-alone ‘Spider-Man’ movie with Tobey,” Church said.

Raimi Says ‘Spider-Man 4’ Is Not Happening

In a recent interview with CBR, however, Raimi asserted that he has not heard of any plans to revisit the iconic Sony franchise.

“Well, I haven’t heard about that yet, I did read that, but, I’m actually not working on it yet. I mean, Marvel and Columbia [are] so successful with their current Spider-Man and the track there and I don’t know that they’re going to go back to me and say ‘We could also tell that story!’ I’m not sure. But I love all the new Spider-Man movies,” he said.

While admitting that it is possible that Marvel had talked to Maguire without his knowledge, Raimi bluntly stated that he would likely know if a Spider-Man 4 was on the way.

“I loved ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’. It was really, super powerful seeing Tobey [Maguire] again in it. I haven’t talked to Tobey about it, but maybe Marvel has, or Columbia Pictures. But, I just worked with Marvel on a movie called ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’. So, I’m on great terms with them. I’m sure I would hear about it if it was in the works. I think so. I don’t know.”

Will We See Maguire’s Spider-Man Again?

While it’s great to hear that Raimi remains on good terms with Marvel, his answer seems to pretty much shut down any speculation about Spider-Man 4.

Still, with the Marvel multiverse set to come together again for Avengers: Secret Wars, perhaps we will see Maguire done his Spider-Man suit again.
