Disneyland Resort Tests New Automated Entry Gates
If you have visited the Disneyland Resort lately, you may have noticed a small change at the main entrance.
Disneyland has been testing new automated entry gates, a special project that is expected to be completed by 2025.
The new system will overhaul the visitor experience at the main entrances at the theme parks, hotels, the monorail and Downtown Disney.
Entry Gate Project
The new entry update is similar to the entrance at Disneyland Paris (installed in 2019). The gate features a clear door that opens when a guest scans their theme park ticket, annual pass, or MagicBand. The system then takes a photo of the visitor.
Currently, the Cast Members scan ticket and the guest walks through the turnstile. If a stroller or wheelchair is entering the gate, the Cast Member opens it themselves.
Disneyland and DCA employees will now be waiting inside the gates to offer help and ensure tickets are valid. The new automated gates are also stroller and wheelchair accessible.
A test entry gate was originally installed at Disney California Adventure for a short period and will be moved later this year. The temporary addition allowed Cast Members to gain hands-on experience and practice with the new technology.
The $4.8 million project is expected to start at Disney California Adventure then move to Disneyland in late 2024.
The new automated entry gates will be completed in phases to lessen guest impact and is expected to be complete in 2025.
