Disney Reportedly Sets Its Sights on Alexander Skarsgard as Hercules in Live-Action Remake
With the recent success of Disney’s remake of ‘Aladdin,’ ‘The Lion King’ coming out in mere weeks and the trailer for ‘Mulan’ being released today, it is definitely the era of live-action releases at Walt Disney Studios and the media giant may be about to add another film into the mix. Rumors are currently swirling that Disney is working on a remake of the 1997 animated film ‘Hercules’ and is eying actor Alexander Skarsgard in the lead role as the half-human half-god title character.
Though Skarsgard is best known for playing slightly dark characters like vampire Eric in “True Blood’ and Nicole Kidman’s husband Perry in “Big Little Lies;” It is his turn in 2016’s ‘Legend of Tarzan’ (pictured top) which is most akin to the role of Zeus’ son and may be what caught the attention of Disney execs.
It’s early days for live-action “Hercules” and all reports suggest that Disney is still floating around names and hasn’t yet found a writer or director for the project. Prior to the news linking Skarsgard to the title role, the rumor was that Disney was eyeing “Hunger Games” star Alexander Ludwig as the lead in the film. Other names we’ve heard floating around in the connection with the project includes Benedict Cumberbatch as Hades and Amber heard as Megara! Only time will tell if any of these casting rumors prove to be true!
