‘The Little Mermaid’ & More Scoop Big NAACP Award Nominations
We’re in the midst of awards season right now, and so far it’s been quite an exciting one for The Walt Disney Company!
So far, the company scored a huge 37 wins across the 75th Emmy Awards, received nominations for 50 People’s Choice awards, and their category count for the upcoming Academy Awards ceremony isn’t looking too shabby either. Celebrations are in order, indeed!
That’s not all, however, as the recognitions across other awards are still coming in thick and fast. This week, the nominations were announced for the 2024 NAACP Image Awards, and we’re not surprised to see that some pretty big Disney titles gained themselves a nod or two.

The Little Mermaid
The live-action remake of Disney’s The Little Mermaid has certainly been a triumph, reflected even more by the fact it gained two nominations in this year’s NAACPs:
- Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture – Halle Bailey
- Outstanding Soundtrack / Compilation Album
It’s worth noting here that Ariel star Halle Bailey also scooped the incredible nomination for Entertainer of the Year, as well as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in Warner Bros. The Color Purple.
Highly deserved!
Wish
The beautiful Wish also earned nominations this year, including:
- Outstanding Animated Motion Picture
- Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance – Motion Picture – Ariana DeBose
Elemental
From Pixar, Elemental also won a nomination in the same category as Wish:
- Outstanding Animated Motion Picture
Secret Invasion
The highly-discussed Disney+ series Secret Invasion from Marvel Studios was another show that earned actor recognition, with nominations in the following categories:
- Outstanding Actor in a Television Movie, Limited-Series or Dramatic Special – Samuel L. Jackson
- Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Television Movie, Limited-Series or Dramatic Special – Don Cheadle
The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder
This Disney Channel animated reboot is another success, earning nominations in the following categories:
- Outstanding Animated Series
- Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance (Television) – Keke Palmer
- Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance (Televisions) – Kyla Pratt
Alongside The Proud Family, the Disney Junior show Marvel’s Spidey & His Amazing Friends also earned a nomination for Outstanding Animated Series, giving Disney two nods in this category.
The Mandalorian
Another fan-favorite title to receive a nomination was The Mandalorian, for which Giancarlo Esposito was recognized for his Outstanding Guest Performance.
Disney’s Launchpad Season Two
Also on Disney+, Launchpad Season Two earned nominations for:
- Outstanding Performance in a Short Form Series – Jessica Mikayla
- Outstanding Performance in a Short Form Series – Seth Carr
- Outstanding Short Form Series – Comedy or Drama
Another Disney+ series to earn recognition in the Outstanding Short Form Series – Comedy or Drama category was I Am Groot.
Furthermore, the Disney Channel show Saturdays earned Norman Vance, Jr. a nomination for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series.
Tamron Hall
From ABC News and Disney Media Distribution, Tamron Hall earned nominations in the following categories:
- Outstanding Talk Series
- Outstanding Host in a Talk or News/Information (Series or Special) – Individual or Ensemble – Tamron Hall
Also nominated in the Outstanding Host in a Talk or News/Information (Series or Special) was ABC’s The View, earning nods for Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, and Alyssa Farah Griffin.
Meanwhile, Turning the Tables with Robin Roberts also earned Disney another nomination in the Outstanding Talk Series category.
In the Outstanding Performance by a Youth (Series, Special, Television Movie or Limited-Series, two Disney+ actors received nominations. Jalyn Hall received one for The Crossover, while Leah Sava Jeffries earned hers for Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
As well as all of these fantastic nominations, the extended Walt Disney Company also earned many more nominations for their owned studios such as ABC, Hulu, and Searchlight. The full list of nominations can be found on the NAACP Image Awards website here.
