Moana Returns to the Streaming Charts
Do you know what the most evergreen content is on Disney+?
Well, you can guess the answer from the article’s title, but it’s true.
Moana has once again returned to the Nielsen streaming ratings, helping Disney+ enjoy another great week on the charts.
Disney Dominates the Movie Charts
If you’ve been reading this article for the past few weeks, you’ve likely figured out the trend.
Disney’s Direct-to-Consumer division performs well on the Originals list, especially when it has new Star Wars, Hulu, or Marvel content.
However, these performances on the Originals chart vary wildly from quarter to quarter. Everything depends on what Disney is marketing heavily at the time.
Nielsen’s Movies chart performs much differently. THIS is Disney’s domain.
For the most recent week on the Nielsen charts, which covers November 13th through November 19th, Disney claimed three spots in the top ten.
The most watched Disney movie was Home Alone, which had returned to the charts last time.
The instant Halloween ended, fans flocked to Disney+ to watch Kevin fight off some incompetent home invaders.
For this week, Home Alone claimed 367 million viewer minutes, which is down slightly from the previous week’s 422 million.
Have fans already watched Home Alone for this season, or will they keep it on the charts for the next six weeks? I’m guessing the latter.
Meanwhile, Elemental continues to hang around the top ten, which is a remarkable feat in an era of constantly new movie content on streaming.
For the week in question, fans watched 335 million minutes of Elemental, which is about 3.5 million viewings in a week.
Finally, we have Moana, which snuck back into the top ten with 223 million viewer minutes.
I’ve mentioned this before, and I fervently believe it. Moana gets about two million rewatches every week of the year. People are absolutely obsessed with it!
Disney on the Other Streaming Charts
Loki provided Disney+ with some good news. On the Originals chart, Loki maintained 440 million viewer minutes.
Yes, that’s lower than last time. However, the series had ended by this point. Generally, shows drop off the charts immediately after the season ends.
Instead, the mysteries and curiosities surrounding Loki’s finale created a buzz. Fans rewatched to see which clues they’d missed.
However, Loki was Disney’s only entry on the Originals chart, which means Disney will probably lack representation in this category soon, maybe even with the next chart.
Bluey remains eternal on the Nielsen charts, though. While the series technically slipped to the third-most popular show on streaming, it still gained viewers…well, slightly.
Last time, Bluey had 918 million minutes, but for the week in question, it increased to 921 million viewer minutes.
So, why didn’t Bluey win? A new season of The Crown aired, as did new-to-streaming episodes of Grey’s Anatomy.
On the plus side, ten new episodes of Bluey are coming soon. That pooch may yet reclaim the streaming throne.
