UPDATE: See The Lights On Inside the Grand Floridian Gingerbread House
Walt Disney World has no shortage of great holiday traditions. From Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party to EPCOT’s Candlelight Processional and even the RV decorations at Fort Wilderness.
For my money though, the most magical Disney World holiday tradition is the construction of the gingerbread house at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort.
For the last 24 years, the Grand Floridian has created a massive gingerbread house that has wowed and entranced millions of visitors.
This year, the display also includes an 85-pound chocolate Santa, toy soldiers, nutcrackers, and snowmen that were all hand-painted by the Grand Floridian Bakery team led by Pastry Chef de Cuisine Kristine Farmer.
In total, Cast Members spent 500 hours baking gingerbread and 480 hours decorating. A truly impressive achievement.
The Lights Come On!
While the Grand Floridian gingerbread house will officially open on November 8, visitors to the resort can see just how far along the house’s construction has come.
The details and decorations are truly awe-inspiring!
Today, for the first time, the lights inside the gingerbread house were turned on.
The interior lights make the house look warm and alive. It is so impressive with the Grand Floridian Bakery team has done!
Here is another look at the lit-up house. You can even see the new chocolate Santa!
