This Day in Disney History- October 28
Welcome back to our continuing trip through the history of The Walt Disney Company. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- October 28.
October 29th was a slower day in Disney history, but it still featured the debut of a new Pixar film, the announcement of a new Disney game, and the groundbreaking of an ill-fated Magic Kingdom attraction. So, let’s get started!
The Pet Store Released (1933)
On this day in 1933, the Mickey Mouse cartoon The Pet Store was released.
In the cartoon, a pet shop owner puts Mickey in charge of the store while he’s away at lunch. Under Mickey’s watch, Beppo the Gorilla escapes!
Squanto: A Warrior’s Tale Released (1994)
On this day in 1994, Sqaunto: A Warrior’s Tale was released.
The film was loosely based on the life of Native American Patuxet tribesman Squanto and is set during and after the arrival of the Mayflower.
The Polynesian Changes its Longhouse Names (1999)
On this day in 1999, Disney’s Polynesian Resort changed the names of its longhouses.
Monsters, Inc Premeires (2011)
On this day in 2011, Monsters, Inc. premiered at the El Capitan Theater.
On hand for the festivities were stars Billy Crystal, John Goodman, and Mary Gibbs.
Disney Announces Development of Epic Mickey (2009)
On this day in 2009, Disney announced the development of Epic Mickey.
The game would eventually be released on the Wii council and would reintroduce audiences to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.
Work Begins on New Magic Kingdom Theater (2017)
On this day in 2017, Walt Disney World began work on a new Broadway-style theater on the Magic Kingdom’s Main Street USA.
The project would be canceled less than a year later.
