Disney Reports That Disney+ Has 10 Million Subscribers
Already one of the most popular streaming services in North America, Disney+ had 10 million subscribers as of yesterday, reported by Disney. That’s twice what they hoped for in a best-case scenario and it’s triple what ESPN+ has done in 19 months. Mandalorian has 2 million day one views, which is on a par with WWE Raw. And the general expectation for Disney+ was 10-18 million subscribers in year one. They reached that lower number in a day. Disney is expecting projections for 60 million to 90 million subscribers globally by 2024.
The company stated in a press release they were experiencing “extraordinary consumer demand” which is what lead to some trouble in launch day,. With the unexpectedly high interest, Disney+ experienced some glitches and widespread outages.
Disney+ will be $6.99 a month. The highly anticipated streaming service for movies and shows from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and more has officially launched. The Walt Disney Company is bringing the U.S., Canada, and The Netherlands nearly 500 films and 7,500 episodes of television. Disney+ is the exclusive home for some of the world’s most beloved stories as well as a robust slate of original content ready to be discovered.
Consumers can subscribe to Disney+ directly at DisneyPlus.com or via in-app purchase from the following partner platforms and devices (dependent on country):
Amazon (Fire TV Devices, Fire TV Edition Smart TVs, and Fire Tablets)
- Apple (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Apple TV, and fully integrated with the Apple TV app; customers can subscribe to Disney+ via in-app purchase)
- Google (Android phones, Android TV devices, Google Chromecast and Chromecast built-in devices)
- LG Smart TVs with webOS
- Microsoft (Xbox One)
- Samsung Smart TVs
- Sony / Sony Interactive Entertainment (all Android based Sony TVs and PlayStation®4)
- Roku (Roku® streaming players and Roku TV™ models)
