Disney and DeSantis Disagree Over Court Date
In the latest court briefing for Disney’s lawsuit against Governor Ron DeSantis, the Mouse House has asked for a July 2024 court date.
That would seemingly put the lawsuit on a fast track, potentially giving Disney more clarity into the future of the former Reedy Creek Improvement District sooner, rather than later.

For their part, the governor’s legal team is asking for an August 2025 date. That would put the trial well after the 2024 United States Presidential Election, in which Governor DeSantis is a Republican candidate.
Disney’s Case Against DeSantis
Disney filed a federal lawsuit against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, arguing that the governor’s dissolution of the Reedy Creek Improvement District and subsequent monorail inspection law were retaliatory.

The company is arguing that DeSantis’ actions were a result of Disney’s decision to speak out publicly against Florida’s Parental Rights in Education law.
The Governor’s Team Seeks Dismissal
DeSantis, for his part, is arguing that Disney was afforded special privileges through Reedy Creek that no other company was given.
Earlier this week, DeSantis’ team filed a motion seeking the dismissal of Disney’s lawsuit. In their filing, they argued that DeSantis was protected from litigation by the 11th Amendment.

DeSantis and his team have also filed a state lawsuit against Disney, arguing that the company’s last-minute binding agreements with the Reedy Creek Improvement District were unlawful and should be voided.
