SPOILERS! All the Easter Eggs and More in Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway in Disneyland
Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway has made its way to the West Coast!

El CapiTOON Theater!
We were invited by Disney to check out Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway before it officially opened in Disneyland Park on January 27th and now we’re here with ALL the differences from the same ride in Disney’s Hollywood Studios as well as all the hidden references, easter eggs, and more.
Warning: Don’t scroll down if you want to avoid spoilers!
Hollywood Studios vs. Disneyland
The Disneyland version of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is located in Mickey’s Toontown, which recently reopened after a lengthy refurbishment.

The ride can be found in the El CapiTOON Theater, which is a change from the Chinese Theatre setting in Hollywood Studios.

When it comes to the preshow, it’s the same cartoon short you can watch in Hollywood Studios, which is “Perfect Picnic.”

One of the BIGGEST differences between the two rides is definitely the queue, so let’s go over it!
The Queue
Disneyland’s queue is VERY different from its counterpart in Disney World, being a lot longer and more whimsical too.

Ride Queue
Don’t forget to stop and read the “movie” posters hanging on the walls of the queue. These posters display parodies of existing Disney movies, like “High School Goofical 3” instead of High School Musical 3.

There are rare characters on these movie posters too, like Minnie’s nieces, Mickey’s nephews, Mortimer Mouse, and DuckTales characters.

Let’s continue!

It all started with a mouse!
Throughout the queue, you can explore Toontown memorabilia on display in the “Mickey Through the Ears” exhibit.

The exhibit/queue takes guests on a journey through Mickey’s animation evolution, from Steamboat Willie all the way to the more modern cartoons of today.

SO many Mickey items!
In fact, you can see an actual ship wheel prop from Steamboat Willie…

The History of Toontown’s Hometown Theater display includes all kinds of Toontown memorabilia, and if you look closely you can learn more about Disney cartoon history.

Moving on to the El CapiTOON Theater’s concession stand, there are all kinds of fun references.

Concession Stand!
The popcorn is shaped like Mickey, Minnie, and Donald!

Look closely!
The snacks are all references to Disney cartoons and characters, like these Powerlime candy bars, which are a nod to Powerline from A Goofy Movie.

If you look closely at the candy, you might recognize references to even more cartoons!

The condiment pumps at the concessions stand are branded as “Begorra Orchards,” which is a nod to Patrick Begorra, a character in the classic Little Golden Book, Little Man of Disneyland.

Don’t miss the condiments!
Just like in Hollywood Studios, the queue leads guests to the pre-show, “Perfect Picnic.”

Let’s watch “Perfect Picnic!”
The screen “explodes,” and the last portion of the queue looks the same as it does in Hollywood Studios. The idea is that guests have been transported into the cartoon!

But what about the ride itself?
The Ride
You may be wondering if the queue is that different, is the ride different too? Not really. In fact, we didn’t spot any differences, although a Cast Member told us there’s an additional tunnel in this version of the ride.

Same ride!
If you want to ride Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway in Disneyland, there is both a standby line and an Individual Lightning Lane available at an extra cost.
