This Day in Disney History- January 7
Welcome back to our continuing trip through the history of the Walt Disney Company. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- January 7.
January 7th featured the release of a new Mickey cartoon, the first day of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and the demolition of a Walt Disney World icon. Let’s get into it!
The Birthday Party Released (1931)
First up, on this day in 1931, the Mickey Mouse short The Birthday Party was released.
Featuring Walt Disney as the voice of Mickey, this cartoon featured all of Mickey’s friends getting together for a surprise party for Mickey!
Voyage of the Little Mermaid Opens (1992)
On this day in 1992, Voyage of the Little Mermaid opened at the Disney-MGM Studios.
The 17 minute stage show replaced Here Come the Muppets in the Theater of the Stars. Voyage of the Little Mermaid combines special effects, film clips and also live performances to tell the story of the Little Mermaid.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios Debuts (2008)
On this day in 2008, the Disney-MGM Studios was officially renamed Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The park’s name change came at the end of Disney’s original partnership agreement with MGM Studios.
Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe Opens (2012)
On this day in 2012, the Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe opened in Disneyland.
Located on Main Street U.SA. the bakery sells baked goods, coffee, sandwiches and salads.
Demolition Begins on the Sorcerer’s Hat (2015)
On this day in 2015, the demolition of the Sorcerer’s Hat began at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The icon of the park since its debut in 2001, the Sorcerer’s Hat was initially the hub of the 100 Years of Magic Celebration and was originally created to be temporary.
For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration Opens (2015)
Finally, on this day in 2015, For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration opened.
The new show would temporarily replace Muppet Vision 3D in the park’s Crown Jewel Theater. The Frozen show would eventually run through April 2016.
