Welcome back to our trip through the magical history of the Walt Disney Company! Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- January 5.
January 5th featured the final day for a fan favorite park name, the end of a Disney Channel classic, and the debut of a new Marvel TV series. So, Let’s get into it!
Pluto’s Heart Throb Released (1950)
On this day in 1950, the Pluto cartoon Pluto’s Heart Throb was released.
Directed by Charles Nichols , the short features Pluto falling in love with Dinah the dachshund. Unfortunately, he must contend with Butch the bulldog!
The Hallmark Card Shop Closes (1985)
On this day in 1985, The Hallmark Card Shop closed in Disneyland.
Located on Main Street USA, the Card Shop originally opened in 1960. It was eventually replaced by Disney Clothiers LTD.
Last Day For the Disney-MGM Studios (2008)
On this day in 2008, The Disney-MGM Studios opened under that name for the final time.
The park would be officially renamed Disney’s Hollywood Studios beginning January 6.
Block Party Bash Closes (2008)
Also on this day in 2008, Block Party Bash closed at Disney’s California Adventure.
The stage show and parade originally opened in May 2005. The procession would eventually move to Disney’s Hollywood Studios- replacing the Disney Stars and Motor Cars parade.
Wizards of Waverly Place Finale Airs (2012)
On this day in 2012, “Who Will Be the Family Wizard” aired on Disney Channel.
The final episode of the Wizards of Waverly place, the show featured three wizard siblings competing to win sole custody of the family powers.
Wizards of Waverly Place debuted in October 2007 and starred Selena Gomez, David Henrie and Jake T. Austin.
Agent Carter Premieres (2015)
On this day in 2015, Agent Carter premiered on ABC.
A spinoff of the 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger, the show starred Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter.
Everglazed Donuts and Cold Brew Opens (2021)
Finally, on this day in 2021 Everglazed Donuts and Cold Brew opened at Disney Springs.
The new bakery and coffee shop replaced the POP Gallery.
