Lin-Manuel Miranda To Write Lyrics For ‘New York, New York’ on Broadway
A new musical directed and choreographed by five-time Tony Award winner, Susan Stroman is in the works. Lin-Manuel Miranda is set to write lyrics for ‘New York, New York’ on Broadway!

The musical draws its inspiration from the 1977 film, New York York, New York, starring Robert De Niro and Liza Minnelli. Several Tony, Emmy, and Grammy Award winners and Academy Award nominees are collaborating on the project.

According to People, included in the musical’s creative team are “John Kander and Fred Ebb (music and lyrics), Tony Award nominee David Thompson (writer), and five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman (direction and choreography).”

Miranda will be joining the group to write additional lyrics for the stage version. As for the type of show, Kander states, “In 1945, World War II ended. In the years that immediately followed, hundreds of thousands of ex-servicemen and women — myself included — descended on New York City, a tough, gritty, beautiful dream palace, filled with youthful energy and optimism.”

He continued, “This is where I can become the person I was meant to become! And this is the New York of our story.”

Performances will start next year on March 24, 2023, with opening night set for April 26, 2023. Miranda is known for his Broadway musicals, Hamilton and In the Heights.

He’s also worked with Disney on projects for Star Wars, Encanto, and Mary Poppins. Recently, he contributed to The Little Mermaid‘s live-action film.
