TikToker Bears Uncanny Resemblance to Luisa from ‘Encanto’
We’ve got your TikTok moment of Zen for the day. If you’ve been following along with us here at MickeyBlog you’ll know that Disney’s Encanto with original songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda is taking the internet and the Billboard music charts by storm!
Though we’ve focused a lot of our attention on smash hit “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” one TikToker is taking the internet by storm for her more than striking resemblance to Luisa from the film. For those unfamiliar Luisa’s son ‘Surface Pressure’ is another popular musical number from the film with lyrics all about the struggles that come with being the backbone for your family. Early in the film, Mirabel (voiced by Stephanie Beatriz) starts to notice that her powerhouse of an older sister Luisa (voiced by Jessica Darrow) is starting to feel more than just a little bit stressed out over all of her responsibilities. The song above represents the moment that Luisa actually opens up about how the Madrigals and the entire town rely on her to fix all of their problems but that she’s finding it difficult to cope.
According to a recent piece on Today, the song had a personal connection to TikToker Maribel Martinez. She said that people kept telling her how much she looked like Luisa before she even had a chance to see the film.

She loved that the character represented both a femiinie and masculine woman. and thought the character design was ‘super cool’ having watched the film with her daughter. Her reaction to seeing Luisa in the film was described to Today as a moment of shock and amazement. Martinez recalls, . “I was shocked because I was so glad to see that I could see myself in somebody else,” she said.
As a result, Martinez, a mom of two, decided to take to social media to recreate some of her favorite scenes from the film. We’ve shared three of her most popular Luisa moments. This includes the moment where Luisa moves boulders with her hips, acting out her famous cry and flexing her muscles while singing along to ‘Surface Pressure.’

Martinez spoke to Today about why she felt compelled to make this clips which have amassed millions of viewers saying, “Not only was I physically the appearance of this character, but the song just related to me so much in my own livelihood.” Martinez saw a kindred spirit in Luisa saying that she too was raised in a big family.

Reflecting on her own upbringing Luisa said, “I was raised as the oldest but I am the middle child out of seven of us altogether” Martinez added, “I’m the fourth one. And my older siblings were adopted out and I was raised as the oldest. So I had a lot of pressure on me growing up.”
Martinez said she was surprised to see her clips going viral adding that multiple social media users have reached out to Martinez to share their own stories about growing up, finding many relatable themes in the film.

Martinez said that she will have done her job if her posts embodying Luisa send a body-positive message to her daughter. “For my daughter, I just want her to always find a way to love herself the way she is. (To) know it doesn’t matter if she’s different,” she said.
