‘Eternals’ Will Feature the Official Debut of Yet Another Marvel Hero
With the MCU’s newest adventure currently in the midst of its opening week, we have official confirmation from the director of the film that Eternals will feature the official debut of yet another Marvel hero!
The film is packed full of character debuts; as the century-old beings known as the Eternals are 10 super-powered heroes who will all be making their MCU debut during the film.
With the introduction of heroes like Ikaris and his Superman-inspired powers, Sersi and her ability to transform matter, and Thena and her energy-infused weaponry; the film has the unenviable task of creating a narrative able to sustain the many faces that appear.
The Eternals themselves, however, isn’t where the debuts stop for the MCU’s latest Phase Four entry.
We all know the film features a certain after-credits scene that introduces a certain 11th Eternal; a character who will certainly appear in future MCU installments.
The film also introduces Dane Whitman played by Kit Harrington; as a character who, although doesn’t appear in the form many Marvel comic fans know him, eventually takes up the Avengers mantle of Black Knight with the power of the Ebony Blade.
What many have come to find out, however, is that a pivotal scene involving Dane Whitman within the film is also the official debut of yet another Marvel character.
That character is none other than Blade.
According to Chloe Zhao herself, Eternals will feature the official debut of yet another Marvel hero; that hero being the Day Walker himself.
Mahershala Ali has been tabbed to play the vampiric vampire hunter for quite a while now, and the film is his official, canonical, introduction into the world of the MCU.
Speaking to Fandom about the scene that sees Dane Whitman almost embrace the Ebony Blade and its call to become Black Knight, Eternals Director Chloe Zhao noted the voice that viewers can hear is Blade himself!
Zhao emphatically told Fandom, “That was the voice of one of my favorite superheroes, Mr. Blade Himself.”
Blade has always been a fan favorite MCU character and was one of the first Marvel characters to sustain a film franchise after his successful film series in the 2000s.
Mahershala Ali should bring incredible levity to the character, and seeing the future interactions between Whitman’s blood-thirsty Ebony Blade, and the vampire hunter Blade should be incredibly interesting for the future of the MCU.
