Grand Floridian Readies Lobby For Gingerbread House
The eloquent lobby of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa at the Walt Disney World Resort began its transformation for the holiday season today. With furniture removed from a vast majority of the east end of the lobby, the popular resort made way today for its incredible holiday gingerbread house.
In a tradition dating back decades, the Grand Floridian’s Gingerbread House takes weeks to create. The full-size cottage magically fills the entire eastside of the main entrance. It also offers one of the most whimsical retail locations on property during this festive time.
In previous years, the Grand Floridian’s gingerbread house utlizied over 10,000 pieces of gingerbread to support the snow-covered lodge. Thousands of pounds of ingredients, including honey, chocolate and confectioner’s sugar, bring the home to delightful life.
The Gingerbread House should make its debut in early November with is much anticipated return to the resort. Due to the pandemic, the Grand Floridian did not place host to the incredible structure last holiday season. Instead, the resort shared a mini-gingerbread display. It featured two complete houses as well as Santa, reindeer and two incredibly detailed nutcracker statues.
Of course, we cannot wait to watch the incredible pastry chefs at the resort assemble this magnificent holiday delight. Previously, pasty chefs noted that the piece takes over 400 hours to prepare in the kitchen and assemble in the grand space.
For now, guests continue to enjoy the tranquility and old school charm of the lobby’s evening piano player after a day celebrating “The World’s Most Magical Celebration.” Over the next couple of weeks, Walt Disney World Resort guests certainly can expect to see the the theme parks and resorts transform from fall decor to an abundance of holiday cheer. Earlier this week, Hollywood Studios started their celebration of the season with decor appearing throughout the park.
