Gingerbread House Construction Begins at Disney’s Grand Floridian
Christmas decorations are popping up all over Walt Disney World. The lobby at Disney’s Grand Floridian will soon have the sweet smell of gingerbread in the air. The Grand Floridian’s Gingerbread House is officially under construction. The resort has been bringing this massive holiday structure to life for more than 20 years.
As you can probably guess the gingerbread house doesn’t just go up overnight. It’s a months-long process that starts with a classic Austrian gingerbread recipe.
Disney’s own Grand Floridian pastry chefs spend close to a total of 400 hours baking the 10,000 pieces that will make up this intricate structure.
Once constructed the Grand Floridian Gingerbread House takes about a week to decorate with over 1,000 pounds of honey, 700 pounds of chocolate, and 600 pounds of confectioner’s sugar used.
Want to know the best feature of this iconic Gingerbread House? You can shop inside the Gingerbread House! Guests can purchase a wide variety of sweet treats, from gingerbread to peppermint bark. They even sell gingerbread Christmas ornaments.
