Kenobi Is Back: McGregor Appears On Kimmel
“Obi-Wan Kenobi” spoke with Jimmy Kimmel….
It was, for this fan, a quiet moment of satisfaction. Ewan McGregor, seen in a waiting room at the studio where they are producing Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi, certainly looked the part.
Wearing his hair long and with a thick beard growing in, “Ben Kenobi” spoke as Jimmy Kimmel and McGregor conversed. Ostensibly working to promote his upcoming show Halston, McGregor admitted it remains a pleasure to pick up the Jedi robes.
“It was good; it feels great,” said McGregor to ABC’s late-night host. “I have to say I’m having a really, really good time.
“The costume’s probably slightly different, you know? [Different] Than you might expect, so – but to go back into the role, shall we say, is great. It’s all still there. It feels good.
“There’s some great scripts and some great people to work with… I am having a good time,” he said.
McGregor, who has been — understandably — critical of the green screen process of the early 2000’s again lauded the chance to work with some of the recent technology developed on Disney projects like The Lion King and The Mandalorian.
“We’ve got this technology!” exclaimed Ewan. “You know, before we did this [with] months of blue screen and green screen acting, and now we’ve got this extraordinary technology.
“We work inside a big screen [circles hands], and the backgrounds are on there, so it feels much more realistic.
“It’s good,” he repeated.
Reminiscent of how Josh Gad attempted to get Daisy Ridley’s goat when she was starring in the Star Wars franchise, Kimmel attempted to trick McGregor into letting some information slip.
And it almost happened, as Ewan admitted that he had not yet been to Darth Vader’s dressing room. Which, of course, would be a spoiler if Kathleen Kennedy hadn’t confirmed Hayden Christensen’s return several months ago.
But in a quiet moment of honesty, McGregor spoke about being careful with the secrets of Star Wars, adding, “That’s the thing about all these reveals, it just spoils it for the fans… I won’t give [secrets] to you.”
Filming on The Fourth
However, McGregor did give one tease. Talking about filming on May the 4th (Star Wars Day), he said, “I got to play a very special scene on May the 4th, with someone very special in my life. And that’s all I can tell you about it, but it was great.”
Pressing one more time for info, Kimmel asked if the actor opposite Ewan was someone “we’ve seen you on camera with before…are they related to you?”
McGregor replied:
“No […and] not necessarily.”
So, just like Ben Kenobi on Tatooine. We will have to wait and see.
