Disney World Theme Parks Release Accident Reports For Early 2021
So it’s been a relatively accident-free few months at Walt Disney World according to a recent accident report that was released by Orlando theme parks covering January through March of 2021.
As the Orlando Sentinel mentioned in a recent piece, Florida theme parks re required to “self-disclose” injuries that occur on the premises each quarter.
According to the report, a 72-year-old woman became ill while riding the Kilimanjaro Safaris at Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park. No further information was released regarding the issue.
We also know from the report that a 69-year old woman reported an ankle injury on the Gran Fiesta Tour boat ride located in the Mexico Pavilion at Walt Disney World’s EPCOT theme park.
The reporting of theme park injuries has become a contentious issue as of late. Orlando Sentinel reported last year that details regarding injuries at theme parks do not often get released to the public. In the instances that injuries are reported, they aren’t always clearly reported or at times can appear to be downplayed.
As the Sentinel argues, “Compared with California, Florida’s theme parks have little government oversight, and Comcast Corp.-owned Universal and the Walt Disney Company are major lobbying forces and political donors in the Sunshine State.” With that in mind, Ben Wilcox who runs non-profit group Integrity Florida said, “In the past, that political will has just not been there. It’s been because of the hold that these industries have on our Legislature and state policymakers.”
