‘Festival of the Lion King’ Will Return to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Beginning Mid-May
I have some super-exciting news to pass along today! Jeff Vahle, President of the Walt Disney World, just shared a post on Instagram announcing that the “Festival of the Lion King” show will be returning to Disney’s Animal Kingdom in “mid-May!” The cast of the show is already back in rehearsals in preparation of the opening day.

In Vahle’s post, he says, “Our cast is back in rehearsals for “A Celebration of Festival of the Lion King,” preparing for the show’s mid-May debut as entertainment continues to return across Walt Disney World. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Vice President Sarah Riles and I stopped in to welcome them recently, and hearing that wonderful, familiar music put a lump in my throat. Thrilled to have these talented Cast Members back on our stage!”
When the show returns to the Harambe Theater at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in May, it will be just a tad different inline with current COVID-19 protocols. With the changes to the show, it will temporarily be called “Celebration of Festival of the Lion King” versus “Festival of the Lion King.”

Modifications to “Festival of the Lion King” include changes to the show’s choreography so that all cast and crew can follow proper social distancing measures. In addition, just like the “First Time in Forever – A Frozen Singalong” show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, different parties will be seated in the Harambe Theater to allow for proper social distancing measures.
