Gina Carano Is Done At Lucasfilm
The Hollywood Trades report that Gina Carano is off The Mandalorian
Initially, many Star Wars fans rather enjoyed the introduction of Cara Dune during Season 1 of The Mandalorian.
However, as the real world crept in on the character, it was very hard for many of those same fans to separate the fictional from the factual.
Carano Will No Longer Portray Cara Dune in Star Wars
Tonight, the major Hollywood news sources are all reporting that Carano no longer works for Lucasfilm.
The Hollywood Reporter’s Ryan Parker and Aaron Couch posted:
Gina Carano will not be returning to The Mandalorian, after sharing a post on social media inferring that being a Republican today is like being Jewish during the Holocaust.
“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future,” a Lucasfilm spokesperson said in a statement. “Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”
On Wednesday, Carano was trending on social media under the hashtag FireGinaCarano following an Instagram post (since deleted, but screenshot and widely shared by users on social media) from the outspoken conservative actor and former mixed martial artist was met with severe backlash.
Meanwhile, Deadline’s Anthony D’Alessandro explained:

THE MANDALORIAN: Gina Carano as Cara Dune, Julia Jones as Omera and Pedro Pascal as the Mandalorian
Carano has previously stirred up the dust on social media with comments about mask-wearing and voter fraud. In November 2020, she made fun of those using preferred pronouns on social media by listing “beep/bop/boop” in her Twitter bio. The action came off as transphobic. She later walked that back, saying that Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal. “helped me understand why people were putting them in their bios. I didn’t know before but I do now. I won’t be putting them in my bio but good for all you who choose to. I stand against bullying, especially the most vulnerable & freedom to choose.”
For Many, The Actor Did Not Live Up To The Character

Cara Dune was hailed as a breakthrough for women in the sci-fi/fantasy franchise, a physically strong warrior whose toughness matched the steely personality of the masked bounty hunter of the title. She could lead a raid on a bomb-making compound, hold back an onslaught of stormtroopers, and had even recently taken up the role of law enforcement for the New Republic, bringing order to her corner of the universe where might tended to dominate the weak or needy.
The discord on social media began after the first season. As Vanity Fair reported in November when the #FireGinaCarano hashtag first began trending, Carano’s political tweets antagonized a wide array of fans. The pain was felt acutely by those who admired her character the most, including some who cosplayed as Cara Dune and hoped the spirit of the hero matched the feelings of the person performing her.
