Walt Disney World Begins To Roll Back Mask Mandate
Great news Disney fans! Walt Disney World has just announced the first phase in rolling back their mask mandate.
Since Walt Disney World reopened back in the Summer of 2020, masks were required by all Guests ages 2 and older at all times unless in resort pools or remaining stationary while actively eating or drinking. But, as of Thursday, April 8, Guests will now be able to remove their masks while taking photos and remaining socially distanced from other Guests.
Here is the official statement from Walt Disney World regarding the update of their mask mandate that will go into effect on April 8:
Face coverings are required for all Guests (ages 2 and up) and Cast Members, including those who have received a COVID-19 vaccine. Please bring your own face coverings and wear them at all times, except when dining or swimming. You may temporarily remove your face covering while actively eating, drinking or taking an outdoor photo*, but you must be stationary and maintain appropriate physical distancing during this time. (*Beginning April 8)
I have said all along that Walt Disney World’s mask mandate would be rolled back in phases. While allowing Guests to now remove their masks while taking photos, I think the next phase will permit Guests to not have to wear a mask while walking around in outdoor areas at the Parks and while enjoying attractions that are outdoors.
It’s hard to know when this change might go into effect though and nothing is official until Disney announces it. But, wouldn’t it be nice if we were able to celebrate Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary mask-free?!
Earlier this year, Disney said they do wish to remove the mask mandate completely by the beginning of 2022 if not before.
They said the speed that which vaccines are being administered will determine when the mask mandate is officially lifted. Currently, at least 25% of adult Americans have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
In addition, the Mayor of Orange County, Florida, just announced yesterday that he hopes to be able to lift the local mask mandate by this June. Of course, since Walt Disney World is a private company, they are not required to adhere to this change if/when it happens.
But with today’s news, it appears that Walt Disney World is cautiously moving in that direction as well.
While Walt Disney World no longer requiring masks to be worn by Guests while taking photos is just a small change at this time, it is a HUGE step in the right direction for that day we can go completely mask free on our next Walt Disney World vacation!

God let us be able to walk and drink at the same time soon. That’s a big hassle. Not in line or anything congested but definitely on the fairly open walkways.
