Breaking News: Could PeopleMover Be Reopening After Nearly a Year!?
If you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog then you know that we’ve been eagerly awaiting the return of one of our favorite classic Magic Kingdom rides, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover!
Sadly, this attraction has been down since the theme park re-opened after the COVID-19 shutdown. Over the course of the past year, we’ve tracked the progress of a potential reopening for the ride which has involved test, testing and more testing! Cast Members have told us throughout the year that because of the age and mechanics of the ride, getting it ready to return is no easy feat with each of the little motors on the ride vehicles needing to be replaced. But could this processes be nearing completion? Attractions Magazine seems to think so.
The ride is supposed to re-open on April 4, 2021 and there has been a bustle of activity along the track recently with cast members testing out the 10 minute route the ride takes around Tomorrowland! Though it should be noted that Disney World has pushed back the reopening date of PeopleMover now on several occasions, perhaps this time we could once again hear those magical words “Paging Mr. Morrow.”
What has us particularly excited is the fact that Attractions Magazine reached out to Disney who delivered a stock answer about the reopening of the ride but a hopeful one nonetheless. Disney told Attractions that they “were looking forward to sharing more news about the PeopleMover soon.”
Though the company wasn’t forthcoming with dates, this being the 50th Anniversary year of Walt Disney World and with celebrations officially kicking off across all four theme parks beginning on October 1, 2021, we hope to see this classic attraction get the comeback it deserves well before then.
