Downtown Disney Opened and There Was No Shortage of Guests
Downtown Disney in California opened yesterday, July 9, at 10am and despite concerns about the COVID-19 spread in the area, guests were there in full force.

The opening of the Downtown Disney retail area is the first phase of Disneyland’s reopening plan. Currently, the park’s opening date has not been determined. Safety precautions were in place. Face coverings were required, temperature checks were required and business hours were reduced.
But, according to LA Local News KTLA, some fans even waiting overnight to get in.

Downtown Disney is also home to the retail store, World of Disney, which houses much of the sought after Disney merchandise. It’s sister store in Disney Springs (Orlando) had lines down the sidewalk when it opened several weeks ago. Apparently, it was no different at Downtown Disney. Disney guests swarmed the store for everything from T-shirts, to backpacks, to new Ears.

“Definitely some people are ready to go back to work and are looking forward to earning a living again, but there’s quite a few people who are scared and just don’t know what to expect and feel vulnerable,” said Andrea Zinder, president of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 324, which represents the Downtown Disney employees.
Zinder went on to say that several topics were still being discussed with Union reps. One question revolved around why there is not on site testing for Disney cast members. She did say there is a health care facility on the property.

Signage was also present informing guests of social distancing and hand washing/sanitizing procedures. But, it does seem for many there was no fear in visiting the retail area. Walt Disney World in Florida begins theme park openings this week with a very controlled capacity limit. After this surge towards Downtown Disney, it will be interesting to see if guests will get a Disneyland opening date anytime soon.
