Disney to Begin Checking Employee Temperatures on June 14th
New information out of the Walt Disney World Resort today explains Disney’s screening process for employees. Starting Sunday, June 14th, Disney will begin checking employee temperatures upon arrival to work. This is in addition to a pre-arrival screening that cast members are to complete.
What Happens if a Cast Members Shows Up Sick?
An agreement between the Service Trades Council Union and Disney’s Director of Labor Relations lists the details of this screen. If a cast member has a temperature of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or more, they will not be permitted to work. They will, however, be offered a “cool down” period and a second check to rule out environmental factors. Cast members will be paid for missed shifts.
Not Just Checking Employee Temperatures
In addition to checking employee temperatures, Disney is asking cast members to complete a “pre-arrival screening tool.” The screening tool below is available in multiple languages and is to be completed prior to leaving home. It encourages cast members to not present to work if they can answer “yes” to any of the questions. This includes a list of Coronavirus-associated symptoms, as well as a question about potential exposure to the Coronavirus.
We expect to hear much more information about changes taking place prior to the parks opening. Disney Springs is currently open, and the Walt Disney World parks will begin opening July 11th. Disney Springs began checking guest temperatures when they opened in May. Tomorrow they will begin checking employee temperatures as well.
What other measures do you expect Disney to implement prior to the parks opening? Do you think that Disney is taking appropriate precautions, or that they should be doing more or less? We are excited for the parks to open so that we will have an understanding of what Disney vacations will look like for the coming months.
