Imagineers Place New Jungle Cruise Skipper on Set Overnight
The Walt Disney World Jungle Cruise attraction refurbishment continues to add new characters and scenes during after hours park work. Last night’s addition by Walt Disney Imagineering certainly added a bit of drama (and characteristic hilarity) to the experience.
The new storyline for the ride introduces riders to Felix Penchman XII, the skipper and master of puns leading the expedition. Have no fear, the skipper still plays a major role in the ride experience as well.
The story goes that, after their trusty river boat splits apart, Skipper Penchman finds himself and his crew stranded. When local wildlife discovers them, Penchman makes the misguided decision to lead his crew up a tree, where they now remain surrounded by their new jungle “friends.”

“The new creative concept for our river’s journey will be original to Walt Disney Imagineering, just like the attraction itself,” according to Disney Parks Blog.
While still holding on to the attraction’s old-school charm, hilarity and wildlife surprises, the re-imagined Jungle Cruise focuses on adding elements that “reflect and value the diversity of the world around us,” according to the blog.
Though the attraction stayed open at Walt Disney World throughout refurbishment, the Disneyland attraction will delight guests starting on July 16th. Work at the Magic Kingdom location also should finish by this summer.
River Journey on the Big Screen
Also adding to the adverturous excitement around the classic Disney Parks ride, “Jungle Cruise” hits theatres and Disney+ with premiere access on July 30th. The film will follow Skipper Frank Wolff (Dwayne Johnson) as he cracks jokes along a wild expedition with fearless Dr. Lily Houghton (Emily Blunt) on their trusty ramshackled boat, La Quila.
