American Idol’s First Ever Remote Show

This Sunday, April 26th, “American Idol” will air a new episode. Just like many other shows, they are having to get pretty creative with social distancing protocols still in place. This time, for the first time ever, “American Idol” will air remotely.
Ryan Seacrest recently gave fans a sneak peek of how the show will run. His big surprise was the original American Idol judges desk that he has had hidden at his home. The original trio of, Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson and Simon Colwell has evolved several times over the years of the show. Currently, Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan sit in the judges’ chairs.
The stakes are high this week as the top 20 perform. They will compete remotely for a spot in the top 10 filming their performances on I-phones and singing their hearts out. The judges, host, Ryan Seacrest, and mentor Bobby Bones will all participate from different locations.
Recently, Idol had to explain the episodes recorded at Disney’s Aulani Resort and Spa in Hawaii. The episodes clearly showed a non-socially distanced audience and interaction with the judges as the next round of winners were chosen. But, those episodes were filmed much earlier than the air date before the strict laws requiring remote performances and social distancing were put in place.
So, Katy, Lionel, Luke, Bobby and Ryan will welcome viewers into their homes and the show will go on for the current American Idols.
And don’t worry, America will still get to vote for their favorite Idol as the show continues to air alternative Sundays and Mondays at 8pm on ABC.
