Could Disney World Be The Home of a Summer NBA Reboot!?
Could the NBA find a new home and salvage its season at Walt Disney World? Surprisingly enough, that’s currently one of the ideas being floated about just now by the Association.
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the 2019-20 NBA season was put on hiatus. Insiders are suggesting everything from picking up where the season left off during the 21-22 season or heading straight to the playoffs. However both solutions overlook an important factor – the stadiums won’t be busy.
That’s why, out of all of the ideas being floated, there is one, in particular, this is gaining traction – that is sequestering the entire league to play games at one designated sight. Though lots of different locales have been considered, it is Walt Disney World, in particular, that seems to have staying power.
Let’s take a look at why Disney World might ACTUALLY be the perfect place for this endeavour:
Hotel/housing
If there’s one thing that Walt Disney World has a lot of, it’s guest rooms. For this reason Disney’s Art of Animation and Disney’s Pop Century might make good go-to options. Though not luxurious Disney accommodation, close proximity to ESPN Wide World of Sports makes them properties of convenience.
With the Art of Animation currently having around 2,000 rooms and Pop Century 2,900 rooms, there is plenty of bed space to go around. Another option if the NBA opted to splurge would be the NEWLY opened Disney Riviera Resort. Housing a combination of studios and villas, this restort boasts some pretty incredible eateries which might appeal to athletes staying on property.
Basketball facilities
Over at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex you’ll find The Visa Center which can house as many a six full-sized basketball courts along with configured stadium -style seating. And let’s not forget that ESPN is home to the HP Field House which is already equipped to host high-level basketball games and in the past was home to the AdvoCare Individual college basketball tournament every November. And as Yahoo Sports points out, the center is already broadcast ready!
With all of these awesome details and tools already there, continuing the NBA magic in Walt Disney World is starting to sound more and more like a viable option!
