James Gunn Said That ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Would NOT Be Delayed Due to COVID-19
With theaters shuttered across the world and production companies furloughing employees, you wouldn’t be wrong for thinking that COVID-19 is having a MASSIVE impact on theatrical release schedules.
However, at least for the moment Star-Lord, Grot, Rocket and the rest of the gang are safe! Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn recently assured fans during a Twitter Q&A session that the film would be released on time.
“Right now the plans with Vol 3 are also exactly the same as they were before coronavirus,” the director tweeted.

However, it should be noted that Disney has yet to give the film and “Official” opening date despite releasing production schedules over the next few years. Gunn said that though no official date has been released, the production is on track as originally scheduled.
Though little has been revealed regarding plot, Gunn did say in the same Q&A that Rocket would play a key role in the film. During this time we’ll find out a little bit more about his backstory including how he was created and came to link up with the Guardians.

As you know, Gunn was dismissed from the franchise after comments from an old Twitter account surfaced. However, Marvel officially re-instated him on March 2019. In the interval he has also been working on a sequel to Suicide Squad which he said will also release on time on August 6, 2021.
Just yesterday, Disney released its updated schedule for all major theater releases through 2022. This excludes Guardians for the time being but you will find other hotly anticipated sequels including Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Avatar and even the start of the next Star Wars saga. You can check out the release in its entirety here.
