James Gunn Teases That Rocket Will Have A Big Role in Guardians of the Galaxy 3
We love the way that writers, directors and actors in Hollywood are taking to internet while in quarantine to bond with fans! Yesterday we shared the awesome story of how Marvel Head Kevin Feige shared a magical Avengers: Endgame moment with Twitter fans and today it’s all about James Gunn who was tweeting with guests during an online Guardians of the Galaxy screening.
Gunn offered some pretty interesting insights into the futures of our favorite Guardians characters with some particularly interesting tidbits about the much-loved Rocket Raccoon.
When asked by fans of Rocket’s origin story would be a part of the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Gunn tweeted back: “I’ll just say Rocket is a big part of what’s happening in the future – and a lot of this stuff (like the scars we’re about to see on his back) sets up what I’ve been planning for Rocket all along.” Awesome right!?

So do we know anything about Rocket’s origins from the comics? As GamesRadar points out we do know that he comes from the planet Halfworld which is a home for the mentally ill. The patients are given genetically modified pets to look after them. Rocket was the sheriff of Halfworld and was responsible for defending the planet from threats. We also know that he was the creation of a supervillain known as The Stranger.
According to the comics, Rocket manages to cure the inhabitants of Halfworld and sets the enhanced animals free! It is then that he joined up with the other Guardians.
However, as GamesRadar points out, the rest of the Guardians films borrow loosely from the source material of the comics, so fans will have to wait and see what new elements are woven into Rocket’s backstory and what the future holds for one of our favorite characters.
