A Live-Action Version of ‘James and the Giant Peach’ Could Be in the Works for Disney
Earlier this week we here at MickeyBlog shared with you the news that Disney is reportedly working on live-action versions of both “Hercules” and “Pocahontas.” Today we have another project that may be in the works. According to a recent piece on the website, We Got This Covered, Disney is apparently working on a reboot of the Roald Dahl classic “James and the Giant Peach.”
This is not Disney’s first go at the film. The studio first adapted the classic children’s book in 1996 directed by The Nightmare Before Christmas director Henry Selick and produced by Tim Burton. Though we wouldn’t be surprised to see Burton involved in the new version, as of going to print no specific details have been released regarding the cast or the crew as the film is still reportedly in the early stages of development.
However, initial reports are suggesting that Disney’s live-action trend is far from over and this project will follow in the footsteps of films like Aladdin and The Lion King mixing live acting and CGI to retell the story.
This project will come as no surprise to those following along with Disney movie news. Back in 2016, Sam Mendes was slated to take on the project with a script by Nick Hornby before the project was shelved.
It will be interesting to see whether the project can once again take traction. Readers are encouraged to keep following along with MickeyBlog for this and other Disney movie news and updates!
