When the wheels touch down at Orlando International Airport, my very first move is to snap my MagicBand around my wrist. Here it will be a permanent fixture for the next 7 days!
Your MagicBand acts as your park ticket, FastPass+ ticket, hotel room key, room charges for easy shopping, and holds your Disney Dining Plan credits. These are one of the best gadgets Disney has debuted in recent years- making everything from using Fastpasses to purchasing meals seamless.
To Purchase, or Not to Purchase?
When I visited WDW last month with a friend, she was a little bummed her park ticket didn’t come with a MagicBand. She went with the plastic, hard copy ticket on the first day of our trip.
Taking off her backpack, unzipping the pouch that held her wallet, pulling out the wallet, picking up the 6 other things that fell out of her bag, and reversing the whole process grew old very quickly. I pretended not to notice the quick glances she aimed at my wrist when we scanned into the park and into our first Fastpass, but I knew she was wishing her entries were as fumble-free as mine.
The next thing I knew we found ourselves in the Main Street Emporium, and the rest is MagicBand history!
If you’re staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel, you’ll receive complimentary MagicBands for everyone in your party. If you’ve purchased tickets and are staying off Disney Resort property, you’re faced with the same debate my friend struggled with: should you or should you not purchase a MagicBand?
Hopefully, the story I shared has shed some light on your decision. Ranging in price from $12.99 (solid colors) – $22.99 (character-inspired), these bands won’t break the vacation budget.
For the Everyday Park Guest
My Dad is an Annual Passholder and visits the parks as often as I do, so you’d think he would be up on the MagicBand craze that’s sweeping the WDW nation. On the contrary, he has been rocking his blue MagicBand that came with his first Pass.
If you’re like him and want the most understated and sleek band on the market, the solid colors are for you. They still have the Mickey head outline on the puck to remind you where you are!
For the Disney Fanatics
“Hey! I’m going to Magic Kingdom today around 12, where should I meet you?” If your friend responds, “Meet me at the purple wall”- marry them on the spot! Of course, I’m kidding! But it takes a real Disney buff to know that phrase.
The “Purple Wall” is easily spotted as you head from the Castle hub into Tomorrowland. If seeing that beacon fills you with as much joyous energy as me- this is your band.
You can keep your favorite Disney hero close to you throughout your entire vacation by rocking one of these awesome bands. One of my favorites is this limited-edition Lion King band, released in celebration with Animal Kingdom’s 20th birthday.
There isn’t a happier or funnier hero out there than Genie. This band captures the essence of Genie with his huge over the top smile.
New York City is far from Orlando, but Gotham’s most exciting defender wants you to help him protect against evil on your vacation! In my opinion, the flip side of this band is actually cooler than the original- the spidey signal.
Star Wars fans, step up to the plate! You’ve got your pick of more than 5 bands featuring different characters from the franchise. If you can’t choose a favorite like me, the best bet is to go for this one! It boasts images of the famous symbols and emblems introduced in the film that have become instantly recognizable.
I know they get a bad rap, but let’s face it: there wouldn’t be heroes without villains. I’m talking about Disney’s most evil- Ursula, Maleficent, The Queen…you get the picture. They’re the focus on this surprisingly sinister band.
He’s the leader of the club, and he’s the subject on my top two favorite bands currently available! Sorcerer Mickey is by far the best version of Mickey- if you feel differently, you’re wrong. He’s feisty, got a cool hat, and can do magic!
Though I’m partial to the Sorcerer version, classic Mickey is a classic for a reason. His red/black/white/yellow color palate would be recognized anywhere in the world, and I love the simplicity of this band because you know it’s Mickey.
