Do You Know Who This Disney Character Is?
If you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog then you’ll know that our MickeyBlogger Greg is at Disneyland right now. He shared some of the sights and sounds with us including this unique character encounter.
Do you know who this happy fella is?
It’s Horace Horsecollar of course!
Though Horace might be unfamiliar to some, he’s actually a character with a rich Disney history. Created by Ub Iwerks, Horace first appeared in 1929’s The Plowbox where he filled the role of Mickey Mouse’s steed. Originally meant to appear in the legendary Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Horace was scrapped but it wasn’t long before Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks decided to revive Horace after Disney left Universal.
In his early appearances Horace was actually voiced by Walt Disney himself and would later be voiced by Bill Farmer, who also famously voices the role of Goofy.
Even though Horace is a Horse, he has often been depicted as the beau to Clarabelle Cow!
You’ll see Horace make the occasional cameo in Disney shorts and shows, however, his early role as Mickey’s sidekick would eventually be replaced by the one-and-only Goofy.
It was a nice surprise to see such a historical character at Disney California Adventure yesterday! Everybody say a big “HOWDY Horace!”
