5 Disney Movies That Debuted in November
It’s the middle of November — can you believe it — we are looking back at the Disney movies that had November release dates. It’s a great list this month, filled with Disney classics that you and the kids will love to watch on Family Movie Night.
Fantasia
On November 13, 1940, Disney released Fantasia, a unique film that consists of eight animated segments that are set to classical music. Timing couldn’t have been worse though, as Fantasia was first released in thirteen U.S. cities but World War II was going on and it cut the film’s distribution to Europe. Throughout the years though Disney kept re-releasing the movie with different versions of audio and it has since become the 23rd highest-grossing film of all time in the U.S. (they have to adjust for inflation to determine this).
Fantasia has since appeared as a concert, video games, attractions at Disneyland and more. It is a seriously creative version of a Disney movie and a great way to kick off movie night.
Robin Hood
Released on November 8, 1973, this is the story of Robin Hood and Little John, two outlaws living in Sherwood Forest where they, you know “rob from the rich and give to the poor.” But when the Sheriff of Nottingham collects unreasonable taxes from the animals in Sherwood Forest, it’s time for Robin, Little John and his the other merry men to battle against evil.
Oliver & Company
Released on November 18, 1988, you need to think about the Charles Dickens’ legendary novel “Oliver Twist” when you think of this Disney movie. Oliver & Company takes place in the 1980s on New York’s tough city streets. Meet Oliver, a homeless kitten decides to join a gang of dogs to survive. Actor Joey Lawrence (“Whoa!”) and singers Billy Joel and Bette Midler provide the voices in this classic.
Little Mermaid
She wants to be part of our world, so you really should make Ariel part of your Family Movie Night. Released on November 17, 1989, Ariel is a 16-year-old mermaid princess who doesn’t want to be part of the underwater world anymore. Her best friend is Flounder and the two of them ignore Ariel’s father’s stern warnings to not venture out. She does and sees prince Eric, who is fascinated with her singing voice.
Ursula the Witch grants Ariel’s wish to be a human to see Eric again if, and only if, she gives her beautiful singing voice over to Ursula. Ariel decides to make this pact with Ursula. Does Ariel get her voice back and get to live happily ever after with Eric? Tune in on your movie night and find out. But be warned, the tunes are catchy and you’ll be singing them for days.
Beauty and the Beast
Released on November 22, 1991, this tale, which is as tale as old as time, became one of Disney’s most popular princess movies ever. After a young prince falls under the spell of a wicked enchantress, he is turned into a hideous beast who hides out in a castle. A young girl, Belle, heads to the castle after the Beast imprisons her father and she slowly draws the beast out of isolation and the two start to have feelings for each other.
Aladdin
Released on November 25, 1992, Aladdin and Jasmine are one of Disney’s most popular couples. When Aladdin frees a genie from a lamp, he gets his wishes granted and meets Princess Jasmine. When he finds out that there are evil plans in store for Jasmine, Aladdin must come to her rescue. Does he?
