Top 5 Reasons to Stay at All-Star Movies
Choosing the right resort is critical to having a terrific Walt Disney World visit. When you stay in the right place, you’ll feel like you’re home even while you’re on vacation. Disney has roughly 20 different hotel properties, each of what has its own strengths. The properties in the Value Tier are the most affordable, but they’re still remarkably good hotels. Here are five reasons why you should want to stay at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort.
Themed Areas Based on Disney Movies
The theme of Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort is right there in the name. This hotel’s central conceit is that it’s a celebration of classic Disney cinema. Unlike Disney’s Art of Animation, however, it’s not exclusively highlighting animated films, though.
At All-Star Movies, you’ll discover five different areas on the campus. Each one is themed to a specific Disney film franchise. The five sections are 101 Dalmatians, Fantasia, Herbie the Love Bug, the Mighty Ducks, and Toy Story. Sure, some of these franchises aren’t as fresh as they seemed when the hotel first opened in 1999, but they’re still lots of fun!
You’ll find a giant hockey mask in the Mighty Ducks section, novelty-sized Woody and Buzz statues in the Toy Story portion, and so forth. The gigantic Fantasia brooms carrying buckets of water are an especially nice touch. Any self-respecting Disney fan will have plenty to get excited about when they walk the grounds of All-Star Movies. The theming is extremely well thought out.
Fantasia Pool
While the resort features five themed sections, it only has two main pools. The Duck Pond Pool is clearly the ugly duckling here (apologies for the pun), although it’s not a bad pool. It’s just inferior to the Fantasia Pool, which is tremendous.
This pool embraces the spirit of the story of Fantasia. Sorcerer Mickey stands on top of a platform and uses his magic to cast a silly spell. He causes the water to dance around him. In other words, the adorable Sorcerer Mickey statue (complete with blue wizard hat!) shoots water into the sky. It’s visually stimulating, and kids adore it. Fantasia Pool is among the best at the All-Star resorts and a wonderful place to hang out during a hot Florida afternoon.

World Premiere Food Court
You know how the food court is set up at your local mall, right? You enter a gigantic space, and you see several different restaurants side-by-side. You choose the counter service option that you prefer and order your meal.
The World Premiere Food Court is the most like this setup of any Disney resort restaurant. It’s basically one giant open space, only with several different lines. The one that you select determines the kind of entree that you can order. Each section has a silly but thematic name like Roxy Shop or Lyric Shop.
You’ll simply glance at the menus for the various sections and pick your favorite. Each one has a specific kind of food. The Lyric Shop is the sandwiches and hoagies area. The Majestic Shop is a pasta place, with everything from a meatball sub to pizza. The Roxy Shop is more generic Quick Service restaurant food like hot dogs, hamburgers, and chicken nuggets.
For an All-Star resort restaurant, World Premiere Food Court has a remarkably deep selection of ingredients. Also, the theming is nice. You’ll feel like you’re eating at a movie theater concession stand. It’s a surprisingly immersive food court theme.
The Location
For years now, the central complaint about the various All-Star resorts is their location. Disney intentionally placed these massive properties away the main theme parks, Epcot and Magic Kingdom. Technically, All-Star Movies Resort is closest to Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Once upon a time, critics used this fact as a negative. They lamented the logistics at All-Star Movies Resort. Those assertions seem comical today and moving forward. With the introduction of Pandora – The World of Avatar, Animal Kingdom has become the second most popular gate at Walt Disney World.
Since the only other resort close to it is Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, a Deluxe Tier property, All-Star Movies seems like a tremendous bargain. Whenever you want to ride Avatar Flight of Passage, booking a room here costs 60-70 percent less than at Animal Kingdom Lodge. And the resort will only get better next year when the Disney Skyliner debuts. This new transportation type will feature a pair of stops at Disney’s Pop Century Resort and Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, both of which are at least somewhat accessible to other All-Star resorts.

The Price
Look, we can and do talk about all of the positives of Disney resorts, but you’re operating under financial constraints. You have a vacation budget; you want to stretch it as much as possible. When you stay at Disney, your main goal is spending as much time as possible at the various parks and entertainment complexes. If you’re hanging out in your room a lot, something has gone wrong.
Given this situation, you want to find the best deal for a hotel room. You want/need Disney benefits, the ones that you only get from staying onsite. The resorts in the Value tier are your best bet, with the rack rates at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort among the lowest. You should speak to a MickeyTravels agent to unearth the best potential deal for your hotel room. You may be shocked at how affordable these rooms, especially given that they receive the same Disney benefits as properties in the Deluxe Tier.
